YOLO is apart of DSD’s (Department of Social Development) Compendium of SBC (Social Behavioural Change) programmes that seek to reduce risky sexual behaviours and to prevent new HIV infections. YOLO targets young people between the ages 15 and 24 under the tagline: “It’s my life, it’s my choice…I choose to behave responsibly”. The YOLO program aims at building young people’s self-esteem, confidence, self-efficacy and resiliency to deal with adverse situations.
After a 3 day training that was held for the social workers and some Linkage Officers, we have since implemented the program and it has been offered through events for our beneficiaries. These sessions are aimed at equipping our beneficiaries with the skills that will allow them to take life by its horns yet also the wisdom to make decisions that will be beneficial for themselves and their futures.
It has not only been eye opening to beneficiaries but also us as the service providers because the guide and the structure of this program gives one the tools of introspection and allows for one to see it’s importance.
YOU are your longest commitment and the greatest unconditional relationship you will ever have so start with Self.
